Who I Am

Hi! My name is Scott Caso. I earned my Master of Social Work from the University of Iowa. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as an EMT in rural Iowa, where some of my most meaningful moments were conversations with patients in the back of the ambulance. That work shaped how I sit with people: with steadiness, compassion, and real curiosity about their story. My skills in deep listening led me to addiction counseling and then to equine-assisted therapy with foster children and families. There, I helped people find hope and repair while making big changes in hard circumstances.

Today, I love working with children, adolescents, and families around behavior, relationships, emotional regulation, trauma, or simply finding a way to find words for what is happening inside. Depending on a young person's age and preferences, we might talk, play, or both.  Together, we can strengthen relationships, ease the weight of hard experiences, and work through behavior challenges.

Outside of work, you can find me surfing at El Porto or playing beach volleyball 🌊😊

Therapeutic Approach

I'm gentle, sincere, and fully tuned in to both kids and the adults who care for them.  My approach grew out of working with children facing significant instability, including those who had moved through multiple foster homes.  That work taught me to that how a child plays, moves, and avoids says as much as their words do. I respond with safety, curiosity, and humor so that we can build trust and work toward something better. My hope is that children and families come away feeling more understood, more connected, and better equipped to move forward together.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Some events are brief but stay with us much longer. As an EMT, I saw how hard experiences don't always end when the crisis does. They can linger as anxiety, avoidance, hypervigilance, phobias, or an unease that's hard to explain to people who weren't there.

ART is a structured, brief therapy for processing specific distressing memories, designed to bring relief in relatively few sessions. You also don't have to describe what happened out loud or in detail, so we can do the work without retelling the story again and again.

If part of you is thinking, "What happened still affects me, but I don't want to spend months talking about it," you're not alone, and that instinct may be what brought you here. I'm happy to chat with you about whether ART is the right fit.
