Who I am?

My name is Cristal Aguilar (she/her). I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I graduated with my B.A. in Psychology from California State University of Northridge, in 2015. I earned my M.A. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at Pepperdine University, 2019. Currently, I am registered with the Board of Behavioral Services as an Associate Marriage Family Therapist, supervised by Amy Cornwall (LMFT). Stress, trauma and anxiety are remarkably good at making us forget our strengths that we have. It can be hard to get unstuck and to see the path in front of us all on our own. As a therapist, I plan to partner with my clients to identify what will work best for them with the goal of making them feel better. I work to help people feel comfortable and create a collaborative and judgment-free environment. Therapy is not a one size fits all model. I tailor my approach based on the client’s unique needs, my approach is both empathic and direct.

In my free time, I enjoy dancing salsa, learning to cook, hiking, yoga and spending time with my family and friends. I also spend time learning new hobbies like sewing and ice-skating.

Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic approach gravitates toward using evidence-based interventions such as: person-centered, solution-focused, CBT, DBT, EMDR and ACT depending on my client’s needs.
